A playful, creative way to explore art, science, and technology
Traditional approaches to teaching science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) tend to leave young people feeling pressured to make a choice: Are you a STEM person or a creative person? We believe the innovators and problem solvers of tomorrow need to be both.
Our EXPERIENCES
For kids and adults alike, it’s a powerful feeling to transform a bunch of random stuff into a personally meaningful working robot. In our classes, camps, and workshops, we provide plenty of follow-along instruction and guidance, while also allowing time for participants to make their own discoveries through tinkering and hands-on exploration.
-
Creative Robotics Club gives kids 8-13 a chance to experience the entire robot-building process. This club goes way beyond putting together a kit or playing with coding toys.
-
Our most comprehensive robot-building programs. Over the course of three or five days, each camper will design and build a robot, then program it to interact with other robots (and humans) in interesting ways. Most suitable for ages 10-16.
-
Fun. Educational. Compostable. Tater Bots is a fast-paced workshop that is both a playful introduction to robot building AND a fun challenge for anyone with previous robotics experience.

No kits.
No instruction manuals.
Every robot an original.
Have fun making ideas real
Janky Robots are built with familiar and easy-to-use materials like cardboard, craft sticks, googly eyes, rubber bands, even potatoes. Think of it as crafting with motors and electronics. There’s no obviously right (or wrong) way to assemble a Janky Robot, no expectation (or possibility, really) of perfection or precision. The important thing is to try out your ideas! The fact that things can—and will—go wrong is a feature, not a bug. This is the beauty of “bad” robots; they’re great for learning how to think with your hands, how to work within constraints, and how to keep going when things don’t work out.
