Arts & Crafts & Nature & Technology. That’s the general idea behind Creative Robotics Camp, an informal, playful learning experience that takes place 100% outside in a residential yard in Sylvan Park. Campers won’t just be following instructions from a kit or playing with coding toys. Instead, they’ll be tinkering with the basic building blocks of robotics—motors, servos, sensors, and microcontrollers—to build cool stuff from scratch. They’ll also learn to confidently use everyday materials like cardboard and plastic containers to try out their ideas.

Campers will be working on projects designed to get them thinking and moving. The child you pick up will be dirtier, smellier, and wetter than the child you dropped off—but also full of stories and creative inspiration. Some projects will require the use of tablets or phones (provided), but screen time will be limited.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my child get to bring home what they build at camp?

Mostly no. Taking projects apart and remixing the elements is an important part of the experience. At the end of camp, you can purchase a box of parts, including electronics, for around $50 (final cost to be determined).

What does “100% outside” mean?

We’ll be outside the entire 3 hours of camp every day pretty much regardless of the weather, although we will not have camp if severe storms are anticipated. There’s plenty of shade and shelter, but no air conditioned spaces. Campers will get frequent reminders to drink water, and they will be able to refill their water bottles. There will also be at least one longer hydration/popsicle/snack break around 10:30 every day (a daily snack will be provided, but campers are encouraged to bring their own).

What does my child need to bring to camp each day?
  • Refillable water bottle
  • Snack that doesn’t require refrigeration
  • Bug spray and sunscreen (can be applied prior to arriving)
What if camp is canceled?

For every day camp is canceled (due to severe weather, for example), a make-up day will be offered, or you can request a partial refund of $45.

What is your refund policy?

Customer cancellations one week or more before the first day of camp are eligible for a full refund. Customer cancellations between three days and one week before the first day of camp are eligible for a 50% refund. Customer cancellations less than three days before the start of camp are not eligible for a refund. After camp starts, there are no refunds for days your child does not attend.
